Mini Sugared Candy Corn Cookies

  • 1c butter, softened
  • 1c sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2t freshly grated orange zest
  • 2T freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1/2t vanilla
  • 3c flour
  • 1/2t baking soda
  • 1/8t salt
  • yellow food coloring
  • orange food coloring (or a combination of yellow and red)
  • 1/3c sugar for dipping cookies

  1. Line the bottom and sides of a 9x5 loaf pan with plastic wrap. Set aside.
  2. In the bowl of a stand-mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream together the butter and sugar. Add the egg, orange zest, orange juice, and vanilla and beat until combined.
  3. In a bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually incorporate the flour mixture into the butter/sugar mixture until it comes together and forms a dough.
  4. Divide the dough into thirds. Press one-third of the dough into the bottom of the loaf pan.
  5. Return another one-third of the dough to the stand-mixer and color the dough yellow with the yellow food coloring. Mix until well-combined. Remove the yellow dough and set aside. Place the final one-third of dough into the mixing bowl and color it orange, mixing until well combined.
  6. Press the orange dough evenly over the top of the white dough. Finish by pressing the yellow dough on top of the orange dough in a final layer. Pull the plastic wrap loosely over the top of the dough and place loaf pan in freezer for 60-90 minutes.
  7. Preheat oven to 375.
  8. Lift the dough out of the loaf pan and place it onto a cutting board, removing plastic wrap. Using a long, sharp knife, cut the dough into 1/4-inch slices. Cut each slice into 6 small triangles (as pictured). Bake on an ungreased cookie sheets for 5-7 minutes (6 minutes was perfect in my oven).
  9. While the cookies are baking, place 1/3 cup of sugar in a shallow bowl. When cookies come out of the oven, let them cool 60 seconds, then dip them in the sugar while still warm and place on a cooling rack.

Ice Cream Cone Cakes-for the WOW factor!

Read entire post: Ice Cream Cone Cakes-for the WOW factor!

These are tly easy to prepare! (Sooo einfach!)

1. Ready made cake mix (or your favourite homemade version)

2. Pack of Ice Cream Cones: The flat bottom one's are good for display purposes. The waffle cones are yummy and look great, but not so easy to put on display.

3. Cupcake Pan wth cases: most batters make approximately 12 cupcakes

4. Optional: Food colouring, sprinkles and frosting

1. pre-heat oven to temperature appropriate for your cake batter.  (Typically 160-190c)

2. Place cupcake cases in pan

3. Mix cupcake/cake batter per instructions- if you want to jazz up the batter, add some fun food colouring to match your party theme! (We used our Mckormicks NEON colouring)

4. Evenly distribute cupcake batter across all cupcake cases

5. Place your ice cream cones on top of each cupcake case with batter inside

6. Place in oven and bake as per cake or cupcake recipe.  (typically 20-25 minutes)

7. Remove from oven after having checked that the batter is cooked. (poke with a toothpick or cake stick)

8.  Cool for at least 15-20 minutes.  After cupcake are properly cooled, life out each one and gently peel off the cupcake case.

9. Frost and decorate to your liking!

10.  Enjoy!

We know it takes more than great party decorations to make a "fabulous" party! (we have a few kids ourselves:) Here are a couple great party games for kids that are super easy to prepare! Our first one is a simple "Guess how many gumballs?" This is fun and simple. Depending upon the age of the kids, you can decide how much help they get. You can pass out the gumballs to all the kids and give the winner a nice little prize!
